Oklahoma changes sideline media policy after Sterling Shepard injury

The University of Oklahoma announced changes to its sideline policy at football games in the wake of wide receiver Sterling Shepard's injury last Saturday.

Shepard caught a pass in the end zone but fell forward into photographer Mike Simons's equipment during the Sooners' loss to Kansas State. The wideout left the game but returned later on.

In response, the school has updated its policy for photographers on the sideline, according to Tulsa World.

Here are the new rules:

 • Staff has been instructed to make every effort possible not to block the views of working photographers on the field, particularly when play is in progress. They have also been asked when they relocate to do so by walking behind photographers instead of in front of them.

• OU Athletics will continue to monitor our internal parties on the field trying to ensure that only those individuals with a working function are on the field, particularly once the game begins.

• All field photographers will be required to have any equipment on their person on the sidelines going forward.

• No monopods or tripods are permitted on the field at any time. This includes monopods that are utilized to sit on during games.

• No working media or other individuals will be permitted to stand on the tarp area in the southwest corner of the stadium adjacent to the ramp leading to the visiting locker room.

The new policy will remain in effect for the final three home games of the season.
