Auburn reinstates Jermaine Whitehead after 4-game suspension

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has reinstated Jermaine Whitehead after the safety was suspended for the team's past four games, reports AL.com's Brandon Marcello.

Malzahn reportedly said that the senior will need to earn his way back into the lineup, but did not provide any further details.

Marcello said Whitehead worked with the scout team on Sunday.

Whitehead has recorded 12 total tackles, one sack and two interceptions for 52 yards in two games this season.

In 14 games in 2013, the then-junior defensive back made 65 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for losses. He also had two interceptions and one fumble recovery for 11 yards.

Whitehead's presence will be a great addition to an Auburn defense coming off a tough 38-23 loss to No. 1 Mississippi State.
