Report: Minnesota's Leidner has broken toe

Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner broke a toe in his left foot during Saturday's loss to TCU, according to a report from the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Leidner was already playing injured against the Horned Frogs after spraining his MCL in last week's win over Middle Tennessee State. He played Saturday with a brace on his left knee.

The sophomore quarterback was injured early in the fourth quarter Saturday and replaced under center by freshman Chris Streveler. Head coach Jerry Kill did not say whether Leidner will be available for the Gophers' next game against San Jose State, although he was seen in a protective boot after the game.

"I feel bad for the kid," Kill said. "I really do. He's trying as hard as he can try. I talked to him when he was on the plane a little bit. We'll have to see."

Leidner went 12-of-26 for 151 yards with three interceptions against TCU, while Streveler was 2-of-3 for 18 yards and a touchdown. If Leidner is unable to play next week, Streveler will get the start against the Spartans.
