Arizona State puts Graham on notice: Losing seasons 'unacceptable'

As if there was any doubt about the pressure on Arizona State's Todd Graham to win now, school president Michael Crow confirmed it.

"Losing records over more than one year in any sport are unacceptable," Crow said Tuesday, according to Jeff Metcalfe of azcentral. "You have to look at what the reasons are and the dynamics, but coach Graham completely understands that his very successful start at ASU has got to be realized again."

Graham is looking to rebound from two straight losing campaigns after he turned in three winning seasons to begin his tenure. The Sun Devils unofficially put Graham on notice this offseason by not extending his contract, the first time in five years they didn't do so.

"We've got tremendous athletes, new coordinators, new thoughtful additions to the coaching staff," Crow added. "Coach Graham is completely energized. I don't think it's possible for him to be un-energized. We're exciting about bringing all of that together. We think we've got a great culture that's been evolving. We're excited about this season, but losing seasons at our level of performance expectation are unacceptable."

Graham, who's entering his sixth season at Arizona State, still has four years remaining on his contract.

Despite his frustrations with the football program, Crow appeared satisfied with athletic director Ray Anderson. He said the school is working to extend Anderson's deal, which is set to expire Feb. 4, 2019.
