Georgia's Smart trying to change Ramsey's mind about transfer

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Brice Ramsey's days at Georgia may not be over after all.

After declaring his intention to leave the program back in March, Ramsey remains on the market and Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart would like to have him back.

"I’ve actively been recruiting Brice, trying to recruit Brice," Smart said Tuesday at the SEC meetings, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. "As it stands right now, he’s still looking around but we should have some more clarity on that in the next couple of weeks."

Ramsey didn't see any action at quarterback last season, but chipped in on special teams by filling in for injured punter Marshall Long. The pivot will be hard-pressed to get behind center once again this year with Jacob Eason firmly entrenched in the starting role, but Smart still believes Ramsey could return.

"I thought there was a chance out there," Smart said. "I always told Brice you have done a great job here. You’ve done everything we’ve asked you to do, on and off the field. He’s a great kid. He competed really hard last year. I thought he did a great job, was involved in the competition, came and told me he wanted to shop elsewhere. I told him I completely agreed and understood that and he continues to do that."
