The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a rule Wednesday that bans defensive players from running towards the line of scrimmage and leaping over offensive linemen to block a field-goal or extra-point attempt.
The new rule will take effect at the beginning of the 2017 season.
The leaping strategy has become a growing trend in recent years. The NFL also outlawed the leap on kicks this offseason.
