Want to make money? Bet on Tom Herman as an underdog

Thomas B. Shea / USA TODAY Sports

Whether you need help with that mortgage payment, want to buy your significant other some expensive jewels, or just want to pay off your student loans, there's one surefire way to make money in today's economy:

Bet on Tom Herman as an underdog.

The Houston head coach scored his second win of the season as an underdog with a 36-10 thrashing of 14.5-point favorite Louisville on Thursday night.

Dating back to his tenure as offensive coordinator of Ohio State, Herman has now won 11 straight games when entering as the underdog.

Year Team (Spread) Opponent Score
2012 Ohio State (+2) Michigan State 17-16
2012 Ohio State (+1) Wisconsin 21-14
2014 Ohio State (+4) Michigan State 49-37
2014 Ohio State (+4) Wisconson 59-0
2014 Ohio State (+7.5) Alabama 42-35
2014 Ohio State (+6) Oregon 42-20
2015 Houston (+13.5) Louisville 34-31
2015 Houston (+1.5) Navy 52-31
2015 Houston (+7.5) Florida State 38-24
2016 Houston (+13) Oklahoma 33-23
2016 Houston (+14.5) Louisville 36-10

These are all straight-out wins, not just a loss that covers the spread. For those unfamiliar with betting, THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

Combining the point spread of his five wins with Houston when the opposition was favored, the Cougars entered those contests as a 50-point underdog total. The results from those five games is in favor of Herman by an absurd 193-119 scoreline.

Results like that show why he's the most coveted name on the coaching market as the offseason looms.
