Florida running back Mark Thompson won't travel to Jacksonville for Saturday's game against Georgia, and the team suggested on Twitter it's because of off-field issues.

Though the Gators didn't expand on the reason for his absence, the redshirt junior was cited for marijuana possession early Thursday morning, reports the Orlando Sentinel's Edgar Thompson.

The university's police department confirmed the citation to The Associated Press.

Thompson was given a notice to appear for the misdemeanor violation, and was also cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to provide proof of insurance.

The Gators' third-leading rusher has 262 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground this season. He's averaging 9.5 carries per game.
