Report: Cowboys' Elliott won't be charged with assault

The Columbus City Attorney's Office declined to press assault charges against Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott due to conflicting statements, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

While he's been cleared of criminal charges, the rookie running back remains under review by the NFL, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Elliott's apparent ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson, accused him of abusing her in July, but he has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He reportedly has proof Thompson was planning to try to ruin his reputation if he broke up with her.

Stacy Elliott, Ezekiel's father, confirmed the ruling on Twitter.

The 21-year-old is expected to get heavy playing time in his rookie season with the Cowboys.
