TCU names Kenny Hill starting QB

Soobum Im / USA TODAY Sports

TCU has named former Texas A&M standout Kenny Hill as its starting quarterback for the season opener against South Dakota State.

Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson announced the move following the team's practice Thursday, giving the redshirt junior the nod over sophomore Foster Sawyer.

Hill burst onto the scene with Texas A&M in 2014, taking over following Johnny Manziel's departure, throwing for 511 yards in his first game as starter. He finished the season with 2,649 yards passing and 23 touchdowns but was suspended two games for violating team rules.

Hill faces a tough task in replacing Trevone Boykin at the quarterback position for the Horned Frogs, as the departed senior is the school's all-time leading passer.
