Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield: Ready to lead a national title contender

For the first time in his college career, Mayfield has the same offensive coordinator two years in a row, The Oklahoman reports.

Analysis:

Mayfield pretty much fits the mold of a prototypical dual-threat quarterback as he threw for 3,700 yards/39 touchdowns and rushed for 634 yards/7 touchdowns in offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley's Air Raid offense last year. Mayfield could take his game to an entirely new level as he's found stability in an offensive system for the first time in four years. Last season, Oklahoma was explosive with 530 yards per game and 43.5 points per game. With seven returning starters on offense including stud running backs Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, the offense could be just as good. The one thing that Mayfield and Oklahoma have going against them is a tough schedule with non-conference foes like Houston and Ohio State, but it helps a lot when you play in the defensively-challenged Big 12.
