Oklahoma State's Gundy doesn't want Houston in Big 12

Don't take this the wrong way, Houston, but Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy would be happier without you in the Big 12.

"Anyone that's not in Texas will have a more difficult time recruiting if another Texas school gets in this league," Gundy explained to Guerin Emig of the Tulsa World.

Houston has long been mentioned as a candidate to jump into the Big 12 as the conference explores expansion. The Big 12 already houses four Texas schools, plus two more in border state Oklahoma, the two territories where Gundy's Cowboys do a bulk of their recruiting.

"There's 345 Division I players, give or take a few, in the state of Texas," Gundy said. "Kids that grow up in Oklahoma, in most cases, are going to look at Oklahoma schools harder than other schools. Not 100 percent of the time, but a majority of the time. Well, it's the same thing in Texas."

Although the buzz surrounding Houston's chances to join Gundy's conference is palpable, nothing has been decided. In fact, Gundy said he has no idea how expansion will play out, mainly because the Big 12 hasn't a clue either.

"I don't understand expansion right now," he said. "I don’t know what we’re doing. I think right now we're pretty much clueless."
