San Jose State's Tyler Winston ruled academically ineligible

Jesse Johnson / USA TODAY Sports

San Jose State wide receiver Tyler Winston will be forced to sit out the 2016 season after being ruled academically ineligible.

Winston, a senior, was a star for the Antelopes in the past, though his production has declined each season since his eye-opening freshman campaign three years ago.

Last season, Winston hauled in 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns, a far cry from the 58 catches for 858 yards and five scores he registered in 2013.

Even without Winston, San Jose State is set to return its three leading receivers from a year ago, led by senior tight end Billy Freeman.
