Auburn AD: Malzahn will 'be our coach for a long, long time'
Gus Malzahn has been the head coach at Auburn since December 2012, and athletic director Jay Jacobs believes that isn't going to change anytime soon.
The Tigers finished with a 7-6 record last season, but managed to secure a victory against Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl. Despite the team's record, Jacobs gave Malzahn a vote of confidence on the heels of the SEC spring meetings Wednesday.
"He's our coach and he'll be our coach for a long, long time," Jacobs said to Brandon Marcello of SEC Country Staff. "He's a brilliant offensive mind, took us to two national championships: once as a coordinator, once as a head coach. There's a bunch of schools in this league that would love to be in our position with a guy like him."
Malzahn has four years remaining on his contract, and is set to earn $4.35 million next season. His salary will rise to $5.1 million in 2019, the final year of his contract.
Malzahn doesn't have a losing season since the 1992 campaign when his Hughes High team in Arkansas posted a 4-6 record at the high school level.
