Georgia Southern lands grad transfer Micheal Summers

Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Micheal Summers will stay in state to finish out his college career, transferring to Georgia Southern the school announced Monday.

As a grad transfer, Summers will be immediately eligible to play for the Eagles.

"It means the world to me to be able to come back to my hometown and play for the school that I grew up watching," Summers said.

Summers started seven games for the Yellow Jackets last season and was the team's second-leading receiver, finishing the year with 12 catches for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He started 24 of 34 games during his time at Georgia Tech, but left the team with three games to go this past season.

At the time, Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson said that Summers simply didn't want to play football anymore, though that no longer appears to be the case.

One advantage in joining Georgia Southern is that the Eagles run a similar offense to that of Georgia Tech. Both schools utilize an option offense that requires a receiver to act as a blocker more often than as a pass-catching threat.
