Chanticleers rally past Wildcats to force decisive Game 3 in CWS Finals

Buoyed by a dominant outing from Mike Morrison and a tie-breaking, three-run rally in the eighth, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers kept their season alive Tuesday at TD Ameritrade Field in Omaha, Neb., defeating the Arizona Wildcats, 5-4, to force a third and final game in the College World Series Finals.

Despite not starting a game all season, Morrison was very much up to the task with his team facing elimination, as the right-handed senior allowed just two runs while fanning 10 over 6 2/3 innings before turning things over to Bobby Holmes with the game knotted at 2-2.

Morrison's departure seemed to galvanize the Chanticleers' offense, as Coastal Carolina pieced together five hits in the top of the eighth, storming out to a 5-2 lead following a run-scoring single from Connor Owings, an RBI double from Zach Remillard, and another single from G.K. Young.

Though Holmes nearly squandered his club's late lead, coughing up two runs in the bottom of the eighth, he escaped the frame with a one-run lead and promptly retired the Wildcats in order in the ninth to secure the victory.

On Wednesday, the two clubs will play for the 2016 championship, with the Chanticleers going for their first-ever College World Series title and the Wildcats looking for their fifth.
