Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo can now add "Hall of Famer" to his name.

The longtime Spartans boss was among those elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2016 on Monday, joining Yao Ming, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, Jerry Reinsdorf, and Sheryl Swoopes.

"I've always told my players that they need to dream something before they can achieve it," Izzo said of the honor. "Growing up in Iron Mountain, I had plenty of dreams, many of them seemed like long shots. But I'd be lying if I said being in the Hall of Fame was one of those dreams - it seemed too big. Even today, it's surreal."

Izzo has been at the helm of Michigan State for 21 seasons, and his 524 career victories are the fifth-highest total for any coach through his first 21 years.

The Spartans have appeared in 19 straight NCAA tournaments under Izzo, which is the longest streak in Big Ten history and the fourth-longest all time. His 46 NCAA tournament victories tie for eighth in college hoops history, and include seven Final Four appearances and one national championship.
