MWC admits video error to blame for waving off Boise State winning shot

The Mountain West Conference announced Friday that the video replay causing officials to wave off a potential game-winning 3-pointer by Boise State in Wednesday's loss to Colorado State was not accurate.

"The Mountain West has determined there was in fact a confirmed discrepancy between the rate at which the embedded digital stopwatch advanced and the rate at which the game clock regressed during the instant-replay review," the conference said in a statement.

While the wrong call was ultimately made, the Mountain West was quick to point out the officials made the correct call based upon the video they received.

"The game officials correctly administered the play and, based upon the available video evidence and timing data at their disposal, made the correct decision to disallow the basket. However, they were unknowingly viewing video not delivered at full speed from the production truck."

The confession won't do much for Boise State, as it was denied a dramatic conference victory, and dropped to fourth in the conference standings. Does Bronco head coach Leon Rice feel his team should be awarded the victory?

"Absolutely," he told ESPN's Andy Katz. "A rule was broken in that they used a video that was not synced up, and you can't do that."

It appears the calls will fall on deaf ears, and Boise State must battle through the remainder of its season in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA tournament.
