Rutgers suspends Deshawn Freeman indefinitely from basketball activities

Rutgers has suspended forward Deshawn Freeman indefinitely from basketball activities for a failure to meet team expectations.

"To build a winning program, all of our student-athletes must commit to be successful academically, personally, and athletically," head coach Eddie Jordan said in a statement. "Deshawn has not met these expectations in a consistent manner. He has the opportunity to return to basketball activities once he does."

The junior college transfer is in his first season with the Scarlet Knights, but has been out since early December with a season-ending knee injury. Before his injury he was averaging 13.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, good for second on the team in both categories.

It's been a tumultuous season for Rutgers, currently mired in an 11-game losing streak, and the news that an already injured player is banned from team activities won't do much to boost spirits among the Scarlet Knights faithful.
