Upset of the day: Georgia State shocks Baylor with last-second comeback

The Big 12 did not have a very good Thursday.

After third-seeded Iowa State was upset by UAB earlier in the day, another No. 3 seed from the Big 12, Baylor, fell 57-56 at the hands of 14th-seeded Georgia State. As improbable as the Blazers' victory was, the win by the Panthers was just straight up crazy.

A pair of free throws by Rico Gathers gave Baylor a 56-44 lead with under three minutes to go, and the Bears seemed to be a fairly safe bet to move on to the next round after a pretty close game.

However, Georgia State closed the game on a 13-0 run with R.J. Hunter pouring in 12 of the 13. Hunter had been held to just four points prior to the game's closing minutes, but stepped up when it counted, including nailing the game-winning 3-pointer from beyond deep with 2.7-seconds left.

That play sent Hunter's father and Georgia State head coach Ron Hunter, who tore his Achilles during the team's Sun Belt championship win, tumbling from his chair on the sideline.

After the game, Ron Hunter had some playful words for President Barack Obama who picked Baylor to win in his personal bracket.

Aside from Hunter's heroics, the Panthers dominated the turnover battle, forcing the Bears into 21 while committing six. That advantage was enough to overcome Georgia State's huge deficit on the glass, with Baylor holding a 40-23 margin in rebounding.

Taurean Prince was the only double-digit scorer for Baylor with 18 points to go along with 15 rebounds. Hunter, Ryann Green and Markus Crider finished with 16, 11 and 10 points respectively for the Panthers.

Georgia State moves on to the Round of 32 on Saturday where it will get a date with Xavier.

After finishing 0-3 on Thursday, the Big 12 has a chance for redemption with Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia all in action Friday.
