Kaminsky dominates as No. 5 Wisconsin stomps Michigan State

Mary Langenfeld / USA TODAY Sports

March started off well for the Badgers.

Fifth-ranked Wisconsin dominated Michigan State on Sunday to hand the Spartans their second loss in a row.

Star forward Frank Kaminsky put on a show, scoring 31 points with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks to lead the Badgers to a 68-61 victory.

Michigan State held the lead for less than a minute in the first half thanks to a 3-point jumper from Travis Trice. However, a Kaminsky free throw and a layup by Nigel Hayes rectified the situation for the Badgers, who ended the half with an 11-point lead. Hayes was his team's second-leading scorer with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The second half saw Wisconsin miss key shots, finishing the game shooting 52 percent from the field - down from its 59.3-percent field goal percentage at the half.

Michigan State worked hard to try and close the gap. Spartans guard Bryn Forbes put up 21 points, two rebounds and one assist, including a clutch 3-point jumper with eight seconds left to bring Michigan State within seven points. Trice and Denzel Valentine scored 16 and 10 points respectively, but they couldn't help their team avoid opening March with a loss.

Wisconsin, now 14-2 in the Big Ten, travels to face Minnesota on March 5.

The Badgers have clinched their share of the Big Ten title and have two more regular season games to be crowned outright conference champions.
