Missouri freshmen Jakeenan Gant and D'Angelo Allen have been suspended by the team following their arrests Sunday morning on suspicion of third-degree assault - a Class A misdemeanor - according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

"We are aware of the situation involving Jakeenan Gant and D'Angelo Allen and have suspended them from team-related activities as we gather more information," Missouri head coach Kim Anderson said in a statement, via the Tribune. "We have high standards for the conduct of our student-athletes and expect much more from them as members of our program."

Three men allege they were jumped by three or four other men on Elm Street, and one of the victims saw one of the suspects drop his wallet during the altercation. That wallet reportedly belonged to Gant.

Gant, Allen and a third suspect, Michael James Martin, were stopped by University of Missouri Police around 2 a.m. Sunday and were released after being issued summonses.

The third-degree assault charge carries jail time of up to one year or a fine of up to $1000, or both, for those found guilty.

Gant was Missouri's top recruit, named the best high school basketball player in Georgia before moving to Missouri and finishing high school at School of the Osage.
