Former Boston College forward to join Maryland football program

Garland Owens is transferring to Maryland with an eye on making an impact in a different sport.

The former Boston College forward is hoping to earn a spot on the Terrapins' football program upon his arrival. Owens is likely to play tight end, according to Jeff Ermann of Inside MD Sports.

Owens never averaged more than 4.8 points per game in a season for the Eagles, but at 6-foot-5, he may be able to add some value to the Terrapins if his athleticism translates to the gridiron.

There have been many cases of basketball players transferring to the tight end position and finding success, most notably Jimmy Graham, Julius Thomas, and Antonio Gates.
