Missouri officially adds Michael Porter Sr. to coaching staff

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

Missouri strengthened its chances of signing the country's top recruit Thursday as Michael Porter Jr.'s father, Michael Sr., has officially joined the Tigers' coaching staff.

The move had been rumored since Cuonzo Martin took the head coaching job last week, and comes just hours after Washington granted Michael Jr. his release from his national letter of intent.

Porter Sr. was on Lorenzo Romar's staff at Washington, and no doubt helped the school secure commitments from Michael Jr. and his younger brother Jontay. Following Romar's dismissal, both Porter boys have decommitted from Washington and re-opened their recruitment.

The Tigers finished last in the SEC this season with a 8-24 record, but with Martin taking over and hiring Porter Sr., it looks as though it could be a quick turnaround in Columbia.
