Marquette loss ends Buffett employee's shot at $1 million

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

A Berkshire Hathaway employee captured $100,000 thanks to a March Madness contest from Warren Buffett, but it could have been much more.

The contest had three opportunities to win money.

If anyone at Berkshire Hathaway correctly predicted the first 32 games they would win $1 million and $1 million every year for life if anyone predicted all the Sweet 16 teams. Finally, the last remaining perfect bracket would get $100,000.

One employee came so close to winning the million, needing only Marquette to advance to nail the first 32 games, according to Daniel Roberts of Yahoo Finance. The Golden Eagles lost to South Carolina, though, ending any hope of capturing the million.

They still took home $100,000 for longest remaining perfect bracket. Not a bad consolation prize.
