Despite speculation that health issues would force him to retire, Thad Matta will be back as Ohio State head coach for the 2017-18 season, a source told Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports.

The 49-year-old has dealt with back injuries for a number of years, causing many to speculate that the ailment, along with the Buckeyes' declining on-court performance, would lead him to call it a career.

Matta has been a massive success as Buckeyes head coach throughout his 13 seasons with the program, posting a 337-122 record overall. Ohio State has gone to four Sweet 16s, two Elite Eights, and one Final Four under his watch, but looks likely to miss the NCAA tournament for the second straight season.
