Watch: WWE-style brawl erupts in D-II hoops game

A massive brawl erupted during last weekend's Division II basketball game between LeMoyne-Owen and Lane College, with one fan turning the affair into a "WWE-style" event by hitting a player in the head with a chair.

Alumni at the game told WMC Action News that the game was aggressive from the opening tip with a number of fouls being called on both teams. The brawl stemmed from a tripping incident that led to fans in the seats streaming onto the court.

The game was postponed following the brawl, with no make-up date currently scheduled.

"Good sportsmanship as well as the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans are core values which must be observed and advanced during all athletic contests," SIAC Commissioner Greg Moore said in a statement. "The incident which occurred Saturday evening represents a direct affront to these core values."

Additional discipline has yet to be announced by both the conference or the schools involved, but Moore made it clear there will be some coming.

"Such behavior will not be tolerated in our league under any circumstances," he said. "As a consequence, and at the conclusion of our internal investigation, all responsible parties in connection with this incident shall be subject to the most severe sanctions authorized by conference rules and bylaws."
