Creighton's Watson suffers scary knee injury while trying to play hurt

Creighton guard Maurice Watson Jr. suffered what could be a significant injury to his left knee while trying to play hurt during Monday's game against Xavier.

Watson went down with a knee injury in the first half, and looked to be in distress while struggling to the bench. Stunningly, he came back onto the court moments later, but then re-injured the knee in a non-contact situation and spent several minutes laying on the floor.

While being assisted off the court, Watson told coach Greg McDermott, "I'm done, I heard it pop," according to Joe Danneman of FOX19.

Following the game, McDermott provided some good news for Bluejays fans, saying that Waston did not suffer any ligament damage, but did say the injury could be related to the meniscus, and the knee will be evaluated when the team returns from its road trip.

Watson entered action Monday averaging 13.4 points and 8.8 assists for the nation's seventh-ranked team. The former Boston University transfer has been a vital component of the Bluejays' offensive attack this season.
