Current United States men's basketball national team basketball director Jerry Colangelo knows exactly who he wants to replace him when he ultimately steps down from his position.

In an interview during ESPN's Capitol Games podcast on Tuesday, Colangelo revealed that he'll be working closely with Mike Krzyzewski over the next four years to set him up to slide into the role.

Krzyzewski currently coaches Team USA, with the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, being his last with the squad. Current San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will take over beginning with the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2019.

"Pop said to me, 'I'll do it under one condition, that you're there. I don't want to do it if you're not going to be there.' I committed to him to stay in my role through 2020, but that's it for me," Colangelo said.

The only issue with Krzyzewski replacing Colangelo is his commitment to Duke University as its coach, which may prevent him from fulfilling any duties he'd have with USA Men's Basketball.

"I want Coach K's role after 2016 to be alongside me and get as much experience as he possibly can," Colangelo said. "The real question mark is, how many more years will he be coaching at Duke? I don't think he would be able to handle or be eligible to serve in my capacity in USA Basketball if he's still coaching.

"We'll see what happens in these next four years. But if it were left to me, he would replace me at the appropriate time - sometime after 2020."

Krzyzewski's contract with the Blue Devils expires in 2020-21.
