Deyonta Davis' career at Michigan State was a short one, as the freshman forward will hire an agent and enter the 2016 NBA Draft.

"I asked Coach (Tom) Izzo and Coach (Keith) Guy to do research for me," Davis said in a statement. "The information that came back made me decide to enter the draft. I felt it was the right decision and one I'm fully committed to."

Davis averaged 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in his only season with the Spartans, setting a school record for most blocks by a freshman with 64. While those numbers may not be overwhelming, his growth throughout the season was significant.

"Over the last year, Deyonta has improved as a player, he is just starting to tap his true potential," Izzo said. "I look forward to following Deyonta's development and career in the NBA for years to come."

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering Zach Randolph in 2001 is the only one-and-done player in Michigan State history, but Davis' NBA prospects are strong.

Draft Express ranks the 6-foot-10, 230-pounder as the 13th overall player in the Top 100, and the seventh overall freshman in a loaded class.

While the decision will hurt the roster depth, the Spartans are well equipped to replace Davis with 6-foot-8 commit Nick Ward in 2016. The Ohio native is ranked by ESPN as the 39th overall prospect in the incoming class.
