Ryan Anderson (groin) has been diagnosed with a sports hernia.

Anderson (groin) has been diagnosed with a sports hernia and is slated to receive a second opinion from a specialist later this week.

Analysis:

The meeting with the specialist will likely allow Anderson to determine whether or not he'll need surgery to address the sports hernia. The forward has missed the last five games due to the groin issue, and with a little over two weeks remaining in the regular season, it's fair to reason that the Pelicans may be leaning toward simply shutting Anderson down, regardless of the results of the second opinion. The Pelicans have already lost Anthony Davis (knee, shoulder), Jrue Holiday (eye), Tyreke Evans (knee), Eric Gordon (finger), Alonzo Gee (quad), Quincy Pondexter (knee), and Bryce Dejean-Jones (wrist) for the season, leaving the team incredibly thin in every area of the roster.
