Report: Mavs interested in Kevin Martin if he receives buyout
The Dallas Mavericks would be interested in obtaining Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Kevin Martin if he agrees to a contract buyout with the Wolves, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Martin's name has been heavily discussed in trade rumors for several months, but the market for the 33-year-old appears thin. He has a player option for next season at $7.4 million, but teams would apparently prefer he take a buyout so he won't affect their 2016-17 salary cap should he choose to exercise it.
Like the Mavericks, the Miami Heat reportedly have the same type of interest.
Martin has been sidelined since Jan. 23 with a sore wrist, and doesn't fit in with the Wolves' youth movement. While he could ostensibly provide veteran leadership and a complementary shooting stroke, Martin's field-goal percentage has slipped to a career-low 37.5. Even his respectable 36.4-percent mark from 3-point territory is his lowest output since 2011-12, with his PER currently sitting at 12.5.
