Drummond sets record for most missed free throws in NBA game

Detroit Pistons bench boss Stan Van Gundy had Dwight Howard in Orlando, so he's no stranger to the Hack-a-(insert center who's horrible at free-throw shooting) strategy employed in today's NBA.

So when Howard's current team, the Houston Rockets, targeted Pistons center Andre Drummond on Wednesday, no one inside the Toyota Center was surprised.

Rockets interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff tabbed seldom-used reserve K.J. McDaniels as the man to foul Drummond - who is notoriously horrendous at the charity stripe - and thus tally more fouls than minutes on the floor.

McDaniels committed five fouls - all on Drummond - in nine seconds.

Although the Pistons prevailed, winning the game 123-114, the Rockets' approach did put Drummond in a precarious position on numerous occasions throughout Wednesday's contest.

The Motor City big man finished the game having sunk just 13 of 36 total free throws, setting a new league record for most missed foul shots in a NBA game.

"Go up there and shoot it," Drummond said when asked what his mindset is every time he steps at the charity stripe, according to MLive.com's David Mayo. "It is what it is. They're trying to figure out a way to win the basketball game and it didn't work out in their favor. Everybody's going to try their different ways to win games and that just happens to be one of them. So for me, I've just got to step up to the line and shoot."
