NBA kiboshed John Wall's turnover bet with Wizards assistant

If you've got an issue with the rate at which John Wall has been coughing up the ball this season, it might be best to take it up with the league office.

Before the season began, the Washington Wizards point guard vowed to incentivize taking care of the basketball by paying assistant coach Howard Eisley $100 for every game in which he committed more than two turnovers. Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry made a similar bet with his mother last season, on his way to capturing MVP honors.

The difference is, Eisley's an NBA employee, which means that when the league got wind of the arrangement, it felt compelled to step in.

"They squashed that early in the season," Wall told CSN's J. Michael on Friday. "The called us. I guess it's betting. (They said) it's league protocol."

There's no telling whether a standing bet would've made any difference, but without it, Wall is averaging a career-high 4.3 turnovers per game, tied for second in the NBA.

As Michael notes, going into Friday night's game against the Toronto Raptors, Wall had racked up 26 games with more than two turnovers, which would have made him beholden to Eisley for $2,600.

But Wall said he's found a way to circumvent the league policy anyway, and pay up on the sly.

"I just take him to dinner sometimes," he said.
