Pistons' Van Gundy: Jennings 'ready to go'

Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy feels that Brandon Jennings is healthy enough to suit up for the team after a prolonged absence.

"He's ready to go now," Van Gundy said on Monday.

Jennings - who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in January - had previously targeted Dec. 29 as his return date. If all goes to plan, his re-introduction into the Pistons' lineup will take place against the New York Knicks.

Regardless, Van Gundy is taking a cautious approach with his 26-year-old floor general, while also being cognizant of reserve guard Steve Blake's role in the team's schemes.

"Our decision now - Steve has been playing well, and our bench has actually been good the last three games - it's a matter of timing and when we want to go to him," the bench boss said.

Jennings commenced his on-court comeback with a brief stint with the Grand Rapids Drive - the Pistons' D-League affiliate - and played well enough to warrant one of the more higher-profile call-ups in recent memory.

The California native averaged 15.4 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.1 steals for the Pistons in 2014-15.
