Legacies: Stephen Curry's stardom rooted in father Dell's specialist skill set

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry recently passed his father, Dell, in career 3-pointers made with his 1,246th career make from beyond the arc.

Dell was one of the best 3-point shooters of his era, plying his trade for 16 seasons with five organizations. He earned a reputation as a catch-and-shoot specialist, and that's something he's passed on to Stephen.

The younger Curry is keeping that legacy alive, showing off shooting range that extends well beyond the 3-point arc. He brings that sharpshooter skill set to the floor night in and night out, while also offering so much more. Stephen's ball-handling borders on wizardry, and his ability to shoot off the dribble forces defenders to guard him all over the court.

But it's his ability to shoot the three that most closely resembles his father's game. Dell racked up 1,245 3-pointers in 1,083 games, while Stephen surpassed his total in game No. 427.

"I knew about it going into the game," Stephen said of surpassing his father's mark. "It's a pretty special moment for my family. I'm sure he never dreamt of the day one of his sons would pass him."
