DeRozan misses game-tying layup as Knicks escape with controversial win

For the second time in three games, DeMar DeRozan missed a chance to tie or take the lead with a layup for the Toronto Raptors.

After pump-faking his way out of the go-ahead bucket against the Orlando Magic on Friday, DeRozan had a golden opportunity to tie against the New York Knicks with seven seconds left Tuesday.

DeRozan got an open look on a reverse layup but his shot improbably rimmed out, which ultimately gave the Knicks a 111-109 victory.

Despite his late misfortune, DeRozan was arguably the Raptors' best player on the night. He scored 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting to lead all scorers.

DeRozan could hardly be blamed for the Raptors' third-straight loss.

Instead, a missed call ultimately marred the game's outcome. With 17 seconds left and the Raptors trailing by one, Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony stepped out of bounds. However, nothing was called on the play, and instead of turning it over, the Knicks were awarded two free throws.

After the game, referee Ed Malloy admitted that the Raptors should have been awarded possession following Anthony's uncalled turnover.
