Raptors' DeRozan on Lowry's transformation: 'He's a lot more aerodynamic now'

Following a season in which he was voted in as a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team, Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry didn't rest on his laurels and allow himself to slack over the offseason.

In fact, the 29-year-old took the opposite approach by placing more of an emphasis on working out and dieting, shedding some major poundage in the process.

"He's a lot more aerodynamic," teammate DeMar DeRozan said of Lowry during Raptors media day Monday, according to the National Post's Eric Koreen.

A 4-0 sweep at the hands of the Washington Wizards in the opening round of the playoffs was a huge eye-opener for the team, with Lowry being thoroughly dominated on both ends of the floor by fellow All-Star starter John Wall.

A slimmer physique should give Lowry a better chance at keeping up with some of his younger, more mobile counterparts. Even if it doesn't, Lowry can always boost his morale by checking himself out in the mirror, basking in the results of his dramatic transformation.

"It's nice to have abs," Lowry said. "I can walk around with my shirt off. My wife's like 'wow.'"

In 70 games last season, Lowry averaged 17.8 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.7 rebounds, shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from behind the arc. Toronto finished the regular season with a 49-33 record - the best in franchise history.
