Corey Brewer says he underwent random drug test following 51-point performance

NBA officials needed to make sure that a 51-point night from a player who otherwise hadn't cracked 28 points once all season was legitimate.

So Corey Brewer, who dropped a career-high 51 as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves at the tail end of the 2013-14 season, was asked to submit to drug testing following his masterful performance against the Houston Rockets.

In an interview with CBS Sports' James Herbert published Monday, Brewer revealed the reason for the one-hour delay between the end of the game and his addressing the media that night.

"I had a random drug test from the NBA. So I couldn't do the interview until I got done with my drug test," Brewer said.

"I didn't have to go to the bathroom. So it took a while. It was weird, it was just funny at the same time. I was like ‘Wow, I played the best game of my life, now I gotta go to the bathroom to take this drug test.'"

Even with his humorous, if unpleasant, experience after the final buzzer, Brewer still has fond memories of that evening at the Target Center.

"People bring it up pretty often," he said. "I just remember it was amazing. I felt like everything I threw up was going in. It was fun. And especially it was fun to do it in Minnesota where we had a rough year, to get the crowd something to cheer about."

Brewer was dealt to the Rockets in a three-team trade the following season. He re-signed with Houston on a three-year, $24-million deal this summer.
