James Dolan on Knicks' future: 'It's all in Phil's hands'

The New York Knicks are wrapping up the worst season in franchise history - an unmitigated disaster from start to finish - but if first-year team president Phil Jackson is to be believed, that's been a blessing in disguise.

Jackson says the Knicks have a plan. They have their eye on the draft, on free agency, on the future.

James Dolan, the Knicks' notoriously meddlesome owner, says he has faith in Jackson and, despite the team's struggles, he doesn't plan to intervene in basketball operations any time in the foreseeable future.

"I don’t see it happening," Dolan said in a recent interview, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. "Phil is a brilliant basketball guy, and he and (general manager) Steve (Mills) are working together great. I enjoy being out of the limelight. I enjoy having two experts in there that I trust. I barely have to do a thing. It can stay like that for me forever. As long as we continue to make progress - and I’m sure we will. I believe!"

Dolan also praised the Knicks fans for their patience during this trying season, and asked that they extend that patience just a little bit further.

"The majority of them understand we’re in a rebuild," he said, "We’re moving as fast as we can and they see our opportunities as being huge. I think they are, but it’s all in Phil’s hands."
