Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan elected to draft some insurance at small forward should Tobias Harris leave in restricted free agency.

The Magic selected Croatian small forward Mario Hezonja with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

One of three great unknowns alongside Kristaps Porzingis and Emmanuel Mudiay, Hezonja has been shrouded in mystery for the very best reason: his team, Barcelona, was taking part in the ACB Finals, though they were recently swept by Real Madrid for their third-straight Spanish title.

That responsibility kept Hezonja from the NBA Draft Combine and from working out for teams individually, but it didn't keep him from impressing. Some still won't be sold on him because he's an import with modest numbers - but the fact his modesty ends there should at least make him an interesting prospect.

Hezonja wasn't in attendance at the Barclays Center to join commissioner Adam Silver on stage, as he was with his Barcelona teammates at practice and a private dinner that he was contractually obligated to attend, Jonathan Givony of Draft Express reports.

Mario's father, Ronald, mentioned the Magic as a potential landing spot in an interview with Bleacher Report, crediting Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton as "rising stars" in the league - so you know papa Hezonja is on board with where his son wound up.

Based on limited evidence, Hezonja appears to be worth the gamble. An aggressive, explosive athlete, Hezonja finds shots all over the floor and can hit from outside, which will be his primary asset as his off-dribble game continues to develop. Hezonja may be a little too confident, but that should prove beneficial as he moves along the tougher parts of the development curve.

It's unclear what Hezonja could be defensively, as he has the length and athleticism to guard NBA wings but reportedly lacks consistency on that end (hardly rare for a 20-year-old). The other question mark in his profile is when he may contribute - he signed a seven-year deal in 2012, and if Barcelona exercised its option for the final four years, his buyout would be $2 million.

ESPN's Fran Fraschilla said during the broadcast Hezonja compares to J.R. Smith, being a threat to win both the Slam Dunk Competition and the 3-Point Shootout. Even if he doesn't pan out as an above-average NBA player, Hezonja will at least have some highlight-reel plays along the way to keep Magic fans on the edge of their seats.
