Anthony Davis a game-time call Wednesday

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans may be getting power forward Anthony Davis back for Wednesday's game against the Detroit Pistons

Davis, who has missed five straight games since re-aggravating his right shoulder sprain against the Miami Heat on Feb. 21, went through team shootaround Wednesday morning, and his availability will be decided upon closer to tip-off.

"I’ve been getting treatment, getting back strong," Davis said after shootaround. "It feels better, so we’ll see how it is prior to the game, closer to game time."

Davis also went through contact drills on Tuesday, and said he's been doing everything he can to get back on the court as soon as possible.

"(I’ve been doing) icing, stim, massage, lifting. It feels good. So I’m going to try to go out there," he said.

When Davis went out, with an expected recovery period of one-to-two weeks, observers began writing obituaries for the Pelicans' season. But New Orleans rattled off a season-high five straight wins after that (including the Heat game, in which Davis played just eight minutes), before finally losing a spirited contest to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday.

The Pelicans, still without starting point guard Jrue Holiday and sharpshooting sixth man Ryan Anderson, sit just a game behind Oklahoma City for eighth in the West.

The Thunder get their own superstar back Wednesday.

Davis leads the Pelicans in points (23.9) and rebounds (10.3), and still leads the NBA in blocks per game (2.7) and PER (31.2).
