Cavs' Irving set for MRI after injuring shoulder in win over Warriors

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers' big win Thursday over the NBA-best Golden State Warriors came at an expense.

Point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a left shoulder injury and is slated to undergo an MRI on Friday in Cleveland.

Irving won't fly with the team for Friday's contest against the Indiana Pacers and is considered doubtful for the game. The three-time All-Star reportedly continued playing after getting injured and is hopeful of suiting up versus Indiana, but he'll almost surely be on the sidelines for the Cavaliers' second night of a back-to-back.

Cleveland downed Golden State 110-99 to win for the 18th time in 20 games. Irving scored 24 in 38 minutes, while LeBron James dropped a season-high 42 points in the victory.

The red-hot Cavaliers moved half a game ahead of the Chicago Bulls in the Central Division, and trail the Toronto Raptors by one game for second place in the Eastern Conference.

Irving is averaging 21.6 points and 5.3 assists while shooting a career-high 40.8 percent from beyond the arc in his fourth season.
