Trail Blazers' Matthews sends Spurs to 4th straight loss

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs remain winless since the All-Star break.

Wesley Matthews had 31 points to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 111-95 win over the Spurs on Wednesday night. The loss means San Antonio will end its annual rodeo road trip with a losing record for the first time.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Matthews' 30-point game was the eighth of his career and first since 2012. He shot 11-of-18 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range, added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Five other Blazers finish in double-digits in scoring, including trade-deadline acquisition Arron Afflalo.
  • Tim Duncan paced the Spurs with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while Danny Green added 17 points, and Kawhi Leonard had 15.
  • Tony Parker had a night to forget, missing seven of eight shots - finishing with only two points - and turning the ball over four times.
  • "We just have to stay positive," Parker said.
  • The Spurs are 2-5 on their road trip. They went 21-6 on the trip in the last three seasons.
  • Portland outscored San Antonio 60-45 in the second half.
  • The Spurs have scored 100 points or fewer in 10 of their last 14.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge returned after a one-game absence and struggled, finishing with 11 points on 5-of-19 shooting. He added eight rebounds.
  • The Spurs have won only twice in their last 13 visits to Portland, and lose the season series to the Trail Blazers 3-1.
  • San Antonio's seventh in the Western Conference, two games up on Oklahoma City and four games up on ninth-place New Orleans.
