Raptors' Williams returns Monday, Patterson out

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors are getting one of their key reserves back when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, but it comes at the expense of another.

Lou Williams, who missed Saturday's loss to the Houston Rockets with a sprained ankle, will return from a one-game absence, while power forward Patrick Patterson is out with a left knee sprain.

Patterson is averaging 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in over 26 minutes while suiting up in all 55 contests so far, but those numbers don't do his production justice.

The stretch four is shooting better than 40 percent on 3-pointers and has been a solid defender at the power forward position off the bench, proving his value as a mobile stopper in pick-and-roll situations.

Williams, a Sixth Man of the Year candidate enjoying one of the best seasons of his 10-year career, is averaging 15.4 points in less than 25 minutes off the Raptors' No. 1-ranked bench.

The Raptors head to Dallas to take on the Mavericks on the second night of a back-to-back Tuesday.
