Report: Garnett, Saunders expected to try to buy T-Wolves

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Garnett has yet to make his 2015 debut for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but the 20-year-veteran's future is already the subject of speculation and rumors.

Garnett, who was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets at Thursday's trade deadline, is expected to sign a two-year extension with the T-Wolves this summer.

At some point during that deal, it's expected Garnett and Wolves president-coach Flip Saunders will attempt to form a group to buy the team from current owner Glen Taylor, according to Charley Walters from the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Walters reports that Taylor, who became the Timberwolves' majority owner in 1994, won't sell the team until the dust settles on the sale of the Atlanta Hawks, however.

Forbes pegged Minnesota's franchise value at $625 million last month.

By the end of this season, Garnett will have earned more than $327 million in his illustrious career. Saunders has made approximately $40 million as an NBA head coach, according to Walters.

Saunders, who was fired as the team's head coach in 2005, was named team president in 2013 and reclaimed his coaching position last summer.

Garnett played under Saunders for parts of 10 seasons in his first stint in Minnesota.
