With Amar'e Stoudemire delaying his debut with the Dallas Mavericks to get better acclimated with the team's systems, the Mavericks have made a minor move to shore up their frontcourt depth.

Dallas has signed Bernard James to a second 10-day contract, according to a report from Shams Charania of RealGM. James originally signed on Feb. 11 and will stand as the backup to Tyson Chandler, who is expected to return Thursday from an ankle sprain.

James appeared in one game with Dallas during his first stint, scoring nine points with three rebounds in 22 minutes. He played 76 games with the team over the past two seasons after they acquired him as the No. 33 pick in a 2012 draft-day trade. He averaged 2.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 7.9 minutes across those years.

The 30-year-old James served six years as a security forces specialist in the U.S. Air Force before beginning his collegiate basketball career, first at Tallahassee Community College and later at Florida State.
