Anthony Davis posts another ridiculous line in romp of 76ers

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

There are some games that are played on relatively even ground, with the outcome left to execution, poise and a little random variation. Then there are games like the New Orleans Pelicans against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

There have been larger mismatches on paper this season, with the 76ers considered underdogs against most everyone and the Pelicans an unfortunate mid-level team in the Western Conference. The Sixers could have hung tough and it wouldn't have been all that surprising. They did not, and it still wasn't surprising.

The reason for the singular imbalance and exceptional gap in quality of play on Monday came down to one man, and one eyebrow: Anthony Davis.

As he's wont to do, Davis picked apart the Sixers with an array of outputs, stuffing every column of the boxscore. He finished with 32 points on 12-of-19 shooting and added 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and four blocks.

Naturally, the Pelicans rolled to a 99-74 victory, because what in Shammgod's name can the 76ers be expected to do about plays like these?

Philly shot just 34.6 percent overall and lost the rebounding game by 14, simply lacking the talent - especially without Michael Carter-Williams, who was sidelined with an illness - to overcome a performance like the one Davis put forth.

And while the line is gaudy, this is now old hat for Davis. He's averaging 24.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.9 blocks and now has six games on the season in which he's had at least three of all five stat categories and four in which he's done so with at least a 25-and-10.

He is the eater of worlds.
