Hawks tie franchise record with 14th consecutive win

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

There is no stopping the Atlanta Hawks. There's not even any containing them. They are the unstoppable force, and they are the immovable object.

The Hawks' unbelievable run of dominance continued on Wednesday, with Atlanta easily dispatching the Indiana Pacers 110-91. The outcome was never in question, with the Hawks flying out to an 11-point halftime lead that grew to 24 by the end of the third quarter. That's kind of just what they do lately.

The win is the 14th in a row for the Hawks, tying a franchise record set in 1993. They'll have the opportunity to break the record Friday when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder, normally a tall task but one the Hawks are very clearly up to - not only has Atlanta not lost since Dec. 26, they've dropped just two of their last 30 games.

The streak is also just two shy of the season's high-water mark, a 16-game win streak from the Golden State Warriors that ended on Dec. 14.

Just how dominant a run has this been for Atlanta? They're now 35-8, tops in the Eastern Conference by five-and-a-half games, enough of a gap that Mike Budenholzer is now guaranteed to be coaching the Eastern Conference All-Stars. In a fun statistical note, they've also dished 30 assists on six different occasions since Jan. 11. During that time the rest of the league has managed that feat just four times in total.

Jeff Teague dished 11 of those dimes Wednesday to go along with 17 points, which tied DeMarre Carroll for a team-high. The early lead allowed the Hawks to go 12-men deep, each of whom scored at least three points and grabbed at least one rebound. Kyle Korver also dunked, so it was that kind of night.
