VIDEO: Did LeBron James tell Dwyane Wade they're going to reunite?

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

This seems crazy. It seemed like maybe it was fake, or a Reddit user got carried away, or something had been misunderstood. It's just too weird to be real.

And yet it appears to be.

On the NBA's official YouTube page, there is a video recapping LeBron James's return to Miami from Christmas Day, in particular his battle with friend and former teammate Dwyane Wade. The video concludes with the hug the two shared after the Heat were victorious.

A Reddit user pointed out Wednesday that if the audio is turned up and listened to closely, James appears to drop quite the line to Wade through a jersey-covered mouth. The Reddit user, yurtyybomb, transcribes the quote from James as follows:

Like I said, if we aren't better this year, we're gonna re-unite again and do some bigger and better things, alright?

This feels like just some far-fetched internet sweater thread being tugged at. Until the video is viewed. Judge for yourself around the 2:44 mark, and don't stop listening when the video cuts to the NBA logo. The audio keeps playing:

Now, it's worth remembering that this was in the heat of an emotional moment, and it really could be referring to anything. It could have even just been a gag to get people talking, but it's definitely strange.

The only thing that makes sense as an explanation is James referring to post-career plans, as Wade and James have hinted at having such plans in the past. Expressing as much on the court, and qualifying it with a comment about how things are going this year, doesn't really make sense, though.

The timing of the audio being discovered is excellent, with Tuesday's report that James would consider opting out of his contract this summer to leave the Cavaliers if he felt his hand was forced. There are also rumors about dwindling support for head coach David Blatt.

In other words, whatever the context and whatever James meant, consider this can of worms officially open.
